About Hemp

Ireland produces one of the finest hemp crops in Europe. Our operators work with hemp  fibres, shives, roots, seeds, leaves, flowers, and cannabinoids.

Every part of the plant from roots to tops has a separate use and commercial value. Hemp is one of the most valuable cash crops for European farmers.

Hemp supports thousands of diverse, and uniquely green industrial applications, however, the  food value of the crop is the main economic driver of farm level enterprise and global market growth. The food value of the crop is also its core environmental value.

A whole plant approach  in line with undisputed science is fundamental to securing the environmental value of the industry while the  economic viability of the sector is entirely dependent on Irish hemp farmers continuing to benefit financially from all use-potentials of the crop.

Irish hemp farms and businesses, many of them operating in the sector for decades, are at the forefront of global industry innovation and product development. Nevertheless the industry remains very poorly understood across government departments and agencies in Ireland.

HFI works to ensure any future development of the industry in Ireland is fully aligned with EU CAP, Farm to Fork and climate policy objectives.
